QR placement guide

The QR is your entire acquisition channel. Where you put it — and at what size — decides how fast your following grows. This guide covers the four placements that work, and how to tell which one is working for you.

The highest-converting placement for most merchants. The customer is standing still, waiting for a card to run or an order to land, phone already in hand. Put a 4-inch QR in a stand at the register, facing the customer, with the pitch line above it: “Deals by text. Scan to follow.”

Works for foot traffic and after-hours discovery. Use the 8-inch size — a window QR gets scanned from farther away, often from an angle, sometimes through glare. Place it at eye level near the door handle, where people naturally pause.

The 2-inch QR fits at the bottom of a printed receipt. It converts less per impression than a counter card, but it goes home with every single customer, including the ones who paid at a busy moment and didn’t stop to scan. If your POS can print it, turn it on.

For seated service. The QR studio generates a fold-ready table tent with the code on both faces. Customers scan while they wait for food — a captive minute you’re not otherwise using.

Each QR you download from the studio is a distinct tracked asset. The dashboard shows scans per asset, so the question “is the window decal doing anything?” has a number for an answer. Common findings:

  • Counter cards usually win per-impression.
  • Receipt footers win on volume over time.
  • A window decal with zero scans after two weeks is at the wrong height or facing the wrong direction — move it before you conclude it doesn’t work.

Download a fresh asset for each new placement rather than reprinting the same file, or the numbers blur together.

  • Use the SVG or the print-ready PDF from the studio — never a screenshot. Blurry modules mean failed scans.
  • Keep the quiet zone: the white margin around the code is part of the code. Don’t crop it or print to the edge.
  • The center badge (your initials or logo) is safe — the code is generated with high error correction specifically so the middle can be occluded.
  • Matte finishes beat gloss under shop lighting.

The QR needs three words of context. “Deals by text. Scan to follow.” outperforms clever copy. Below the code, the studio prints the manual fallback — text JOIN TONYS to your YURN number — for the customers who’d rather type than scan.
